This is where Michael’s dream ended.

“Damn it,” Michael said.

A week and a half later, Michael went to Allison’s prom. Michael wore a black tuxedo with a black mask that went over his eyes. Allison wore a white dress and a white mask that covered half of her face. Michael could only see the lower half of Allison’s face and her green eyes. Besides Allison’s eyes, Michael immediately noticed Allison’s cherry-red lips.

“Nice to see you,” Michael said. “I mean, from what I can see. Is what I’m saying make sense?”

“I don’t know,” Allison said. “Maybe we should go inside.”

“Good idea.”

Allison introduced Michael to her friends. They all sat down to a table and they a watched a slide show.

“I suppose you’re not in any of these pictures,” Michael said.

“Nope,” Allison said.

Michael and Allison enjoyed the night. It was almost as if they were in a romance novel.

After Michael and Allison shared the last dance, it was time for the unmasking. But right before Allison took off her mask, the power went out. The emergency lights were activated, but it wasn’t bright enough to get a good look at Allison’s face.

“This kind of ruins the surprise,” Allison said.

“What surprise?” Michael asked.

Allison handed Michael a hotel key.

“Wanna go now?” Allison asked.

“Sure!”

Michael and Allison left the Convention Center and they walked across the street to the hotel, even though it was pitch-black.

Before they’ve entered the hotel, the power was restored. That’s when Michael finally got a good look at Allison’s face. Allison’s eyes were greener than Michael thought. She also had dimples and freckles over her face.

“Damn,” Michael said. “You’re so beautiful.”

“Thanks,” Allison said. “Stop stalling and let’s check in.”

“Okay.”

Michael and Allison eagerly checked into the hotel.
